Since the writing of the previous sketch, the writer has found out several things that should be added here, especially about Jacob Outten, who was the son of Isaac Outten, Sr. Jacob was born March 6, 1779, and he was married three times. His first wife was Kesiah Conquest, whom he married August 5, 1804, in Accomac County, Virginia. His second wife was Mary Hancock, whom he also married in Accomac County, Virginia, June 23, 1806.
We do not know how many children Jacob Outten had by his first two wives, but in 1822 he reported on this tax list that he had three children between the ages of four and fourteen years old. But we only have the names of three of his older children. They were Joseph Outten, who was president of a college in Missouri. George Washington Outten, who died in 1852, at the age of thirty five, and Isaac Outten, one hundred eleven, who is said to have been the father of Dr. Henry Outten, the Dentist.
The name of Jacob Outten is on the tax list in 1809 in Mason County, Kentucky, and he is the first Outten who ever paid taxes in that county.
Jacob Outten was married to Mary Balingar of Mason County, Kentucky, November 10, 1832. She was his third wife, but we do not know how many children were born of this marriage.
In 1852 Jacob reported on his tax list that he had three children between the ages of four and fourteen years old. The only one we have any account of was William Oscar Outten, about whom an account has been given in the preceding narratives.
Malaria, the eldest daughter of Dr. Henry Outten, was born in 1879. She says that her grandfather was Isaac Outten III. He was a son of Jacob Outten, and the grandson of Isaac Outten, Sr. He was a half brother to William Oscar Outten, and he was an artist. This statement is probably correct, but as the writer has found no documentary proof, he will leave the matter entirely to the judgment of the family, and it makes no difference which way they describe the honor is just the same. There has never been a murder or a suicide in the whole Outten family.
There are a few marriages and deaths that are not reported in the preceding sketch. Sallie A. Outten married John P. Ricketts, February 19, 1864. Margaret A. Outten married John S. Dickins, march 19, 1871, and Lottie A. Outten married Lee H. Werner, August 16, 1908.
There are also a few deaths not reported in the narrative. Mary Frances, called Mollie, daughter of William Oscar Outten, passed away many years ago. Also a son named Clyde Lee died February 2, 1951. The writer saw a very complimentary account of him that was written at the time of his death in one of the Maysville papers. It stated that he was a very friendly man, a musician, and a member of the First Christian Church.
William Oscar Outten was a soldier in the Union Army and was taken prisoner by the Confederates. James W. Outten was a city clerk in Maysville, and a cigar maker. Robert D. Outten is manager of the National Life and Accident Insurance Company, in Hamilton, Ohio. So this family, like all other families, have tried to be useful. Blessings on them all.
