Last Will and Testament of Purnell Outten

In the name of God Amen. I Purnell Outten of Accomac County being of sound and disposing mind and memory do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following. That is to say first I will that all my just debts and funeral charges be paid and discharged by my ------------ hereafter named this eighteenth day of Sepr. in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety six. Also I lend to by wife Elizabeth Outten all the property I now possess in the County above mentioned during her life or widowhood then I give my negro named Daniel to be his own free man. Then I give my negro Rachel Marry and Agnes to be equally divided between by Son John Houston Outten, Shadrack Outten, Joseph Outten, and Molly Outten, and all the remainder part of my estate to be equally divided between my four children above mentioned. Then I leave all my land marshes and privileges and all other property left to me by the death of my father to be sold at the death of my Mother and the money to be equally divided between my four Children above mentioned. Then I leave George Ker and Joseph Outten my brother to be the hole and sole executors. Also my desire is that my Brother Joseph should settle all my business in Somerset County & that George Ker should settle all my business in Accomac County.

In Testimony whereof I have thereunto set my hand & affixed my Seal the day and year above written. Signed Sealed published & delivered by Purnell Outten in the above named Testator as and for his last Will & Testament in presence of us at his request and in his presence have subscribed our names as Witnesses thereto.

At a Court held in Accomak County June 25th 1798 the said last Will and Testament of Purnell Outten decd. was proved by the Oaths on Wm. Coloney Junr. and William Watson witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. And on motion of Elizabeth Outten taking oath and giving Bennet Scarburg and Charles Bayly Taylor for security who entered into and acknowledged a Bond for that purpose certificate is granted her for obtaining a probate thereof in due form and the said Elizabeth still retains her option of abiding by or relinquishing the said Will.
