The narrative on Jesse Outten contains information on his son Jesse Outten Jr. I suspect that the text contains some errors and that Rev. Outten mixed up Jesse Outten Sr. and Jesse Outten Jr. but I cannot be sure. The third paragraph from the end that starts "On April 4, 1827. . ." mentions that Nancy Outten was the widow of Jesse Outten Jr. but earlier Rev. Outten stated that Jesse Outten Jr.'s wife was Elizabeth and that his mother was Nancy. I also question the names of Jesse Outten Jr.'s children. Rev. Outten lists them as Purnell, Isaac, and Jesse. These are also the names of Jesse Outten Sr.'s children.
Additionally I have a copy of some correspondence from Ellen W. Nelson dated 1962. She maintains that Jesse Jr.'s wife was Ellen. She bases her opinion on the 1850 census records for Vermilion County, Illinois which list Jesse Outten age 80 and his wife Ellen age 68. Ellen and Elizabeth could be the same person or Ellen could be a second wife. This of course means that Jesse Jr. could not have died in 1827! Ellen Nelson is a descendant of Jesse and Ellen Outten's son Ezekiel Outten. She documents her Outten line as John>John>John>Jesse>Jesse>Ezekiel>Sarah. She seems to think that it was Jesse Sr. who died in 1827, although she lists his date of death as 1829.
More recent research has suggested that Jesse's parents were not John & Sarah (Purnell) Outten as stated in the sketch but rather John and Atalanta Outten. This John Outten is believed to be the son of Thomas and Sabro (Jones) Outten.
